Monday Night Football made two big announcements on Monday. First, because of the writers’ strike, all games will be on ABC for the rest of the season and not on ESPN.
The second thing they announced is that Grammy Award winner Chris Stapleton will now be doing the opening theme for the show. Fans got a taste of what they will see on Monday night.
Stapleton and Snoop Dogg will perform the Phil Collins classic “In the Air Tonight.” The song became popular on NBC’s “Miami Vice” in the 1980s.
Current and former NFL players say this song energizes you before the game.
“It was fascinating to me how a song could get you into that mode to go out and just kick it,” Hines Ward said.
Added Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin: “I don’t care if you’re the home team, the away team, you hear that song no matter what (before the game) .”
Some fans were excited that the show added the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer to the show.
Some fans, however, didn’t think remaking the song was a good idea and should have just used Phil Collins’ original.
