NFL Director Troy Vincent reiterated Thursday that tush push will remain a legal game for the 2024 season, according to Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press.
“It was better to say let it go,” Vincent said during a conference call, according to Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
It was reported in December, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wanted the “tush push” to be permanently banned. The topic was expected to be discussed this offseason, but Jeff Miller – the league’s executive vice president for player health and safety – said Thursday there was not enough injury data to present a proposal to ban the game, according to Maadii.
Also known as the “fraternal push,” the “fraternal push” became a viral topic in the NFL last season. Led by Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles’ version of the stealth quarterback has been virtually unstoppable; the QB sneaks in short yardage situations while being aided by a push from his teammates in the backfield.
“The Eagles do it well,” Vincent added Thursday. He had already said in February that it would make no sense to ban the play.
Some players on other teams who tried the “Tush Push” last season were injured, leading to discussions about abandoning it.
