As the NCAA explores possible changes to college football, one of the topics discussed is the 14-week schedule.
By NCAA.comTHE The Division I Football Oversight Committee is currently considering changing the length of the regular season to 14 weeks.
The NCAA release notes that potential reasons for this change include the elimination of two-day practices starting this year and the impact of this change on the preseason practice schedule for teams.
Bob Bowlsby, chairman of the oversight committee, explained the thinking behind a possible schedule change.
“We believe there are ways to maintain the start of preseason practices in August while still following appropriate safety considerations,” he said.
All recommendations made by the Competition Committee will be formally presented to the Oversight Committee in October.
A full FBS regular season schedule typically spans 13 weeks, although the Army-Navy game often serves as the official end of the season and is played a week after the conference championship games.
