Denny Hamlin’s father, Dennis Hamlin, died Sunday from injuries sustained in a house fire in Stanley, North Carolina. Hamlin’s mother, Mary Lou, 69, is currently being treated at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center and is listed in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Still reeling from the tragic Dec. 18 plane crash that claimed the lives of Greg Biffle and his family, the NASCAR community is sharing messages of comfort and condolences to Hamlin, who, of course, has not spoken publicly since the fire.

“NASCAR extends its deepest condolences to Denny Hamlin and the entire Hamlin family,” NASCAR said in an official statement from the sanctioning body. “Dennis Hamlin instilled a love of running in his son and made great sacrifices to make Denny a world-class talent in the sport. We also continue to offer our thoughts and prayers to Denny’s mother, Mary Lou, and look forward to his full recovery.”
