The 2025 NASCAR season officially has three weeks. And each of the three racing weekends presented confusion about the Nascar referee.
The latest episode came on Sunday during the race for the Circuit of the Americas Cup series won by Christopher Bell. During the first half of the race, many teams were confused for which Nascar does not apply the boundaries of the Tour track 6. The sanction body told drivers that they could not cut turns 3, 4 and 5, in the Esses, Tour 6 was apparently a fair game despite being in the same part of the track.
Tuesday morning, the director general of Siriusxm, Brad Moran, the director general of the Cup series, said that the sanction organization would be clearer in its guidelines for the teams and that no one had questioned its communication before the race.
Moran said Nascar confirmed to the teams that there were no penalties for the shortcut 6 – Constant of what Moran said how Nascar had officiated all weekend.
“From that moment, it worked well, but, obviously, there was a certain confusion because we had many teams who had no questions, and I think we had some teams who had questions and it is our responsibility to ensure that all the competitors understand. So, going up, we will no longer make this error. We will make sure everyone understands completely.
“But many changes took place from Thursday, Friday, very close to the race. We treated it as quickly as possible. And I guess that the diffusion was also on the same wavelength as some of the teams. I corrected, continued and had an excellent event. But again our responsibility. We will make sure that this will not happen again. “”
It is not known why Nascar would tell the drivers that they could not drive below the interior limitation in specific sections of the race track. A much more coherent and strict philosophy to prevent drivers from cutting any corner on the track. Daytona’s yellow lines are applied throughout the track and not only in certain 2.5 miles of the oval.
It would be up to Nascar to have a race weekend in Phoenix on Saturday and Sunday without any provoking problems given what has happened so far this season. The Daytona 500 ended under Green despite a last blow accident because Nascar officials admitted to having launched caution too early due to a last blow accident during one of the qualification races for the event.
The following weekend in Atlanta, the XFINITY series race ended under the green despite a big latest accident on the backstretch. The next day, the CUP series race ended under caution with the Tour 3 leaders due to an accident on the backstretch on the last round. This caution intervened after the pilots of the Cup series implored Nascar to be cautious for a last blow accident as what happened during the race of the XFINITY series.
