The mutual insults between Marcos Ambrose and Greg Murphy at Bathurst in 2005 may be the height of drama in Australian motorsport, but NASCAR took it to a whole new level, with parts of one car being thrown at each other.
In the second round of NASCAR, late in the race at Richmond Raceway in Virginia, Joey Gase ended up in the outside wall.
His slide along the wall left his rear bumper guard hanging by a thread.
After getting out of his car, the 31-year-old finished tearing it off the rear bumper and then went looking for the car that propelled him into the wall.
Seeing Dawson Cram’s number four coming with the rest of the field on the inside wall, Gase took about 10 steps down the steeply banked track and threw the bumper at the Chevrolet.
“His timing and his throw were pretty impeccable here,” one commentator said.
“Boom, right through the windshield,” added another.
“I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, but I’m saying I understand.”
After the race, Gase’s team tweeted to Cram, “Hope you enjoy your souvenir,” along with a photo of the shredded car.
