RFK Racing reacted to the surprise departure of their longtime team president, Steve Newmark.
Newmark will leave the team this summer to take an executive position at the University of North Carolina, following a 15-year partnership with the team formerly known as Roush Fenway Racing.
The team’s statement on their president’s departure was glowing, praising his “remarkable leadership” as he leaves to join Bill Belichick at UNC.
Newmark himself said in his own statement this week: “Now it is time for a new chapter. I am returning home to Chapel Hill to join one of the most respected and successful programs in college sports.”

RFK reacts to the president’s departure
“Steve has been instrumental in shaping the culture, growth and success of our organization and his impact will be felt well into the future. While we are saddened that he will step down from his role as President later this summer, we fully support his decision and are grateful that he will remain engaged throughout the transition.
“We wish Steve continued success at the University of North Carolina and look forward to building on the strong foundation he has established.”
RFK uses three cars in the Series of cuts this year for the first time since 2016, with co-owner Brad Keselowski in the No. 6 car, Chris Buescher in the No. 17 and Ryan Preece in the No. 60, all looking for a win that would put them in the playoffs.
