NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Predictions
Blankets: Blaney or Bell rather than Larson and Byron
Eric Smith writes that Phoenix is one of Blaney’s best pieces and that Bell has shown he can turn around an average record, as he did last week at Homestead. Larson’s record isn’t much better with one victory in 18 career Cup races there. As for Byron, he won the first Cup race this spring and it’s been a decade since someone swept Phoenix’s two races in a single season.
NBC Sports: Larson wins the race, second championship
Nate Ryan says it’s between Larson and Blaney, with 2021 champion Larson having the edge. “There’s a lot of elements here that kind of synthesize for Kyle Larson to become the champion,” he says.
Fox Sports: Larson wins his second title in the desert
Bob Pockrass writes “give Larson the edge. In seven of the nine playoff races, Larson has finished in at least the top three in 10 of the 18 stages. He’s always fast. His pit crew is solid. He’s the one ‘we must fight.’
Summary of initiated bets: William Byron wins first title
The staff writes “Byron has seven top tens in the playoffs and hasn’t finished lower than 15th since Michigan.” Even though Larson is the favorite, Byron’s earlier victory makes him the choice.
