NASCAR Champion Martin Truex Jr. Has an Aviation Company All His Own, and It Serves a Noble Cause

Martin Truex Jr. is far from the noise of racing after retiring from the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024. The 45-year-old loves spending time outdoors, dividing his time between fishing and hunting. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t busy professionally.

Truex Jr. owns and operates an aviation company he started in 2019. MTJ Aviation is an ARGUS Gold certified Part 135 charter operator based in Mooresville, North Carolina. The roots of this business date back to 2014, when Truex Jr. purchased a Hawker 400XP to take to races.

The 2017 Cup Series champion initially asked another company to handle operations for this flight. However, he took matters into his own hands, seeing the potential in aviation. Once Part 135 certification was achieved, he expanded his fleet and began focusing on developing MTJ Aviation as a privately chartered company that catered primarily to NASCAR drivers.

Truex Jr. believes there is great potential in this sector and that MTJ Aviation could become something bigger. Things were going well until the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world and caused a drop in momentum.

The business and leisure passengers it hoped to attract were no longer interested in travel. This prompted him to enter a new sector: the transport of organs and surgical teams. This line of work had come at the suggestion of one of the pilots who flew for Truex Jr. It proved to be a very profitable venture, both financially and in goodwill.

“(Flying these organ missions) has been a true blessing and a great experience,” Truex Jr. said. said AIN in 2020. The company has stuck to medical transport operations and now has five Beechcraft 400 XPs in its fleet.

The Beechcraft 400s have a range of 1,704 miles and a top speed of 505 miles per hour. With a cabin volume of 368.3 cubic feet each, they can comfortably accommodate up to eight passengers.

“We don’t want to stray away from why we started this and why it works for us now. I think it’s important to understand and keep in mind strategic development and the ability to deliver the things that got us to where we are.” Truex Jr. said at the time.

MTJ Aviation’s core business is now the transport of organs and medical teams, and more than 50% of its revenues come from this. Truex Jr. had also said in 2020 that his vision was to expand the fleet to include 25 to 30 business jets. This goal remains stable and true.
