MLB World Reacts to Adames Deal Announced by Giants on Social Media originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
There’s a new sheriff in town, and his name is Buster Posey.
The Giants’ first-year president of baseball operations is already taking monumental steps this offseason, agreeing to terms of a seven-year, $182 million contract with star shortstop Willy Adames, according to multiple reports.
The contract Adames announced is the largest in Giants franchise history.
As big? The outpouring on social media as Bay Area fans and the entire baseball world reacted to the news Saturday.
Some considerations on the @SFGiants signature of Willy Adames:
1. Durability: Adames has played in 92.3% of regular season games over the last 3 seasons (449 out of 486 games). With him and Chapman on the left side of the infield, Melvin has two legitimate everyday players.

It’s pretty cool that the guy who signed Willy Adames to the biggest contract in Giants franchise history is the former owner of the biggest contract in Giants history – Buster Posey. https://t.co/Zw8XMdmZON

From the chant “the Giants win the pennant” to “the Giants have a shortstop” 🔥 it’s great and I hope it’s just the beginning.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy on his now-former shortstop Willy Adames:
“He’s a good player, he’s a leader and he likes big situations.”

Matt Chapman and Willy Adames on the left side of the infield for the #SFGiants — is there a cumulative best left side in the game?
And quite a statement from Buster Posey https://t.co/qzVZyY9P4W

most HR as SS since early 2019:
Francisco Lindor: 145
Willy Adamès: 140
Corey Seager: 138– Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) December 7, 2024
There are still plenty of things to do at Buster Posey and Co. this winter, like pitching, but the franchise icon is off to a great start in his new role with the organization looking for a essential overhaul.
