Missouri State basketball faces perhaps its toughest test yet when it faces High Point in the first round of the Cayman Islands Classic on Sunday night.
The 4 p.m. game, played on Grand Cayman Island, will feature the Bears, winners of three straight, and a Panthers team that has received early buzz as one of the best non-Power League programs in the country.
Missouri State (3-1) is in its first season under Cuonzo Martin since his departure after the 2010-11 season. The Bears have six players averaging double figures and have developed an identity of toughness that Martin’s teams are known for.
High Point is 5-0, shooting 50.6 percent from the field and limiting teams to 64 points per game. The Panthers are led by Texas Tech transfer D’Maurian Williams, who is averaging 18.2 points and four rebounds per game.
The winner will advance to Monday’s game at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Old Dominion and Boston College. The loser will play at 4 p.m. against the loser of the same game.
