University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh reportedly faces a four-game suspension following an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations.
Yahoo Sports Reports Harbaugh and the NCAA are working toward “a negotiated resolution that should see him suspended four games this season.” The report claims the suspension stems from false statements he allegedly made to investigators.
Yahoo Sports said the resolution has not been finalized and must be approved by the NCAA infractions committee, which could take several days or weeks, and the punishment could change.
Michigan’s season begins Sept. 2 against East Carolina, with games against UNLV, Bowling Green and Rutgers in that four-game window.
The report adds that two Michigan assistants — offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore and tight ends coach Grant Newsome — are expected to receive sanctions.
Michigan publicly acknowledged the NCAA investigation in January. The investigation allegedly involves unauthorized text messages and calls — including some from Coach Harbaugh — to high school prospects during part of a pandemic-related dead period for contact with potential recruits.
The NCAA was also looking into whether a member of Michigan’s off-field football team broke rules by practicing on the field during practice, the AP reported.
