THE Dishes And Yankees I have already overcome it superstar outfielder Juan Soto in free agency this offseason, and it appears the crosstown rivals could face off again – but this time on the trade market.
With many teams in play, the two New York clubs would be among the “most aggressive suitors” in a trade for the Chicago White Sox southpaw. Garrett Hook from Monday, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
The Phillies, Red Sox and Orioles are also among the teams interested in acquiring the left-hander.
While no deal is considered done at this time, Rosenthal notes that the Mets appear to have the edge in the lottery due to the surplus of young talent they could offer and the White Sox looking for hitters ready for the big leagues in exchange.
With Chicago’s farm system lacking middle-of-the-road talent, young people like Luisangel Acuña, Jett Williams, Dr.Gilbert, Brett BatyAnd Ronny Mauricio could potentially be interesting.
The catch would certainly cost the Mets a pretty penny in any deal, but adding a young, controllable talent – under team control for the next two seasons – would certainly be a great way to David Stearns to complete a starting rotation that is still missing the necessary high-end arm.
For the Yankees, Hook could help make up for the loss of Soto by joining a trio of stars alongside Aces Gerrit Cole and left-handed Carlos Rodon.
The 25-year-old transitioned into the rotation for the first time last season and put together a terrific All-Star performance, with a 3.58 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while striking out 209 batters. strikes and walking only 33 in a career-high 146 innings.
With all the interest, it’s becoming more and more likely that Hook will be dealt at this week’s MLB Winter Meetings.
