THE Dishes find their de facto ace.
New York re-signs LHP Sean Manaea to a three-year deal worth $75 million, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The deal comes a year after the 32-year-old turned a two-year contract he signed with the Amazin ahead of the 2024 season into this lucrative new contract. In that time, Manaea compiled a 12-6 record with a 3.47 ERA and 1.084 WHIP.
Of course, those numbers were supernatural in the second half of the season once he adopted the arm angle of fellow southpaw and 2024 NL Cy Young winner, Chris Sale. From July to the end of the season, Manaea allowed just 37 runs in 105.1 innings pitched. For a team that was missing its 2023 ace in Kodai SengaManaea’s performance over the past few months has helped the Mets make the playoffs.
He was also excellent in the playoffs. He allowed just three runs in 12 innings in his starts against the Brewers in the Wild Card round and the Phillies in the NLDS, but ran out of steam in the NLCS against the Dodgers.
In his two starts against Los Angeles, he allowed seven runs in seven innings and was on the mound in the deciding Game 6. However, when the Mets’ season was officially over, Manaea was outspoken about his desire to return to Queens.
“I loved my time here,” he says said after his loss in game six. “I love New York, the organization and all the people here, so I would really like to come back.”
And now that Manaea is back, he will join Senga and David Peterson in the rotation, which will also include new signings Frankie Montas and the old Yankees are getting closer Clay Holmes.
