As the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics Arizona’s national rugby team players can expect their opponents to do their best against them throughout the 2024-25 season. Joe Mazzulla is looking forward to the challenge.

“People are going to say the target is on our backs, but I hope it’s right on our foreheads, between our eyes. I hope I can see the red dot,” he said (3 minutes of the video below).
It’s a comment that’s entirely typical of the mercurial head coach, who has had a knack for witty retorts since taking over the job in 2022.
Mazzulla and the C’s are favored to win it all again in 2025. That’s no surprise since they’re set to return with a team nearly identical to their 2024 championship team. Boston will return to the field when training camp begins on September 25. Its first two preseason games will be in Abu Dhabi against the Denver Nuggets October 4th and 6th.
