Mazzulla sums up C’s mindset as defending champions with incredible quote originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

As the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics Arizona’s national rugby team players can expect their opponents to do their best against them throughout the 2024-25 season. Joe Mazzulla is looking forward to the challenge.

Wednesday Locked On Celtics podcastMazzulla shared his thoughts on Boston being a “target” in his quest for back-to-back titles.

“People are going to say the target is on our backs, but I hope it’s right on our foreheads, between our eyes. I hope I can see the red dot,” he said (3 minutes of the video below).

It’s a comment that’s entirely typical of the mercurial head coach, who has had a knack for witty retorts since taking over the job in 2022.

Mazzulla and the C’s are favored to win it all again in 2025. That’s no surprise since they’re set to return with a team nearly identical to their 2024 championship team. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Jrue’s HolidaysAnd Kristaps Porzingis (when he returns from injury) will show the way again.

The Celtics finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 64-18 record that gave them home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. They beat the Miami Heat, The Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana PacersAnd The Dallas Mavericks on the way to banner 18.

Boston will return to the field when training camp begins on September 25. Its first two preseason games will be in Abu Dhabi against the Denver Nuggets October 4th and 6th.

The C’s title defense begins October 22 against the The New York Knicks at TD Garden. The 2018 Golden State Warriors They are the last team to win the NBA championship again.
