BOSTON — The Celtics made a statement with a convincing victory in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. In Game 2, the Mavericks will look to respond.

Boston’s Game 1 victory was highlighted by the return of Kristaps Porzingis, who returned from a calf injury to score 20 points, grab six rebounds and block three shots. In addition to Porzingis, Jaylen Brown set the tone with a team-high 22 points and Jayson Tatum had moments despite ineffective shooting.

The Mavericks will look to improve on a stagnant offensive performance in which the team dished out just nine assists. Luka Doncic scored 30 points but Kyrie Irving had an off night, shooting 6 of 19 from the field for 12 points.

After a two-day break, these teams are back in action. This is familiar territory for Dallas, which is now 1-3 entering the playoff opener. The Celtics, on the other hand, are 1-2 in Game 2 in these playoffs. The Mavs will look to bounce back even in the series before it moves to Texas.

9:30 p.m.: Holiday always seems to make the right play. He grabbed an offensive rebound and served Tatum for the and-1. Irving commits his third foul.

9:29 p.m.: Good start to the half for the Mavs who regained the advantage 55-54 on a 4-0 series.

Halftime: Celtics 54, Mavericks 51

9:11 p.m.: The Celtics shot just 3 of 15 from 3 in the first half, but still led 54-51 after the first quarter. The Celtics were 13 of 13 from the FT line, while Doncic scored 23 points.

9:07 p.m.: Doncic, my God. He is at 23 points after a 3.

9:06 p.m.: Tatum struggled mightily, scoring just two points on 1-of-8 shooting. Holiday was Boston’s leading scorer with 14 points.

9:04 p.m.: The Celtics took a 44-42 lead with less than four minutes to play.

8:59 p.m.: Excellent play from Jones to recover a pass and convert the and-1 on the fastbreak. Tatum commits his second foul with less than five left in the half.

8:57 p.m.: The Mavs continue to struggle on the FT line. Doncic misses his third of the match.

8:51 p.m.: White made a 3 to give the Celtics a 36-35 lead with eight minutes left in the half.

8:49 p.m.: I have to wonder if the Celtics are starting to double-team Doncic. He has up to 20 points on 8 of 12 shots. The Mavs lead 35-33.

8:47 p.m.: Yeah, Doncic is on a mission tonight. He has 18 points just 90 seconds into the second quarter.

8:42 p.m.: The Mavs finish the quarter shooting 4 of 9 from the FT line to Boston’s perfect 10 of 10. The Cletics are 1 for 9 from 3.

8:40 p.m.: The Mavs are struggling from the foul line, shooting just 2 of 6, while the Celtics are shooting 0 of 8 from 3-point land.
