Sign theft has been a hot topic during the 2025 MLB playoffs, as teams are quick to gain a legal competitive advantage over their opponents.
In particular, the subtle movements of baserunners at second base have been noticed by MLB fans who suspect that the individual is attempting to transmit signs to the batter in real time. Another example of this came Wednesday during Game 4 of the ALDS between the Mariners and Tigers.
While at second base, Josh Naylor could be seen moving his arm in what appeared to be a signal to his teammate in the batter’s box. Naylor wasn’t even trying to hide it either, as he openly raised his arm in the air to relay the sign.
“I don’t like it.”

As Tyler Holton threw to Mitch Garver in the fourth inning, Naylor, who was taking the lead at second base, could be seen gesturing with his right arm as if he was pushing something toward third base. The next pitch was a curveball that Garver went through. Naylor continued to signal throughout the at-bat, never bothering to try to be subtle with the antics.
FS1’s Adam Wainwright made it clear that he was not a fan of Naylor or other players’ antics, although he noted that it was completely within the rules.
