Jim Nagy evaluates Tez Walker’s first game back (with a full week of practice) for North Carolina
North Carolina organizes Senior Day on Saturday against Duke and several talented playmakers could join in the festivities. One player who could be honored is star receiver Tez Walker.
THE Kent State Transfer has not yet announced whether he will enter the NFL draft, but Walker is in his fifth season with a college program, even though he is technically only a junior.
North Carolina head coach Mack Brown We asked this week if Tez Walker would make it through Senior Day.
“That’s a good point. I hadn’t thought about it, but we should (think about it). You know, he just hasn’t been around that long, but it’s a good point. Brown said.. “It’s a little confusing now, because if you graduate, do you leave, do you come back the next year?”
Tez Walker has 28 catches for 438 yards and six touchdowns in five games this season.
He was ineligible to play at the start of the year, before being cleared by the NCAA and immediately becoming UNC’s top receiver.
Brown joked that many players could be honored this weekend, and Walker is among that group.
“We could have 54 for Senior Day and be late to the game. Start at 8:30 in the morning,” he said.
Mack Brown Wonders If Duke Is Drake Maye’s Last Home Game: ‘I Think It’s Absolute’
One player who seems certain to play his final home game this weekend is North Carolina’s quarterback. Drake Maye.
The sophomore is draft eligible and expected to be a top-10 pick.
Mack Brown was asked this week if he expected Saturday’s game against Duke to be Maye’s final home game for the Tar Heels and if he expected him to participate in the Senior Day.
“I love Drake. I love him like a son. » said Brown. “I have so much respect and appreciation for this young man. So we will ask him if he wants it. It’s not my place to tell him. He’s very emotional and he just wants to win. You all saw it; he is so humble that he does not want attention to be drawn to him. I think it would be cool if he came over there so everyone could say thank you.
As Brown continued, the North Carolina head coach revealed whether or not he thought Maye would return to the program for one final season. He also shared what advice he would give Maye on the subject and revealed what he said to one of his former star quarterbacks, who found himself in a similar position a few years ago.
“I think it’s absolute. It would be mine, quite honestly. He will be a first round pick. He’s going to make a lot of money. Is it better for me if he stays? Absolutely. But that’s not who we are. I mean, you can’t sit here and say, “I want him to be treated like my son.” If my son came and asked me, I would say go for it. Vince Young came over and asked me, “I’m going to make $20 million if I leave.” What do you think?’ I said I’d get out of here, man. Go for it,” Brown said.
