Texas Longhorns athletic director Chris Del Conte announced about a month ago that the Longhorns intended to bring back their once-annual spring football game, which was canceled due to alleged tampering activities related to player recruiting. Texas’ decision last spring mirrored dozens of other top national programs, as they, too, proceeded without one of the sport’s postseason quirks. However, the decision to restart the spring game this year comes after a second window in the NCAA transfer portal took place after most spring games were canceled once it became known that college coaches were using programs’ games as a way to scout players from other teams.
