The Champions League is the minimum expectation
It’s not going to be easy – with Aston Villa, Chelse and a recently resurgent Manchester United all in the top four.
And a report in Football Insider now warns Slot that unless he gets Champions League football, the specter of Xabi Alonso will loom.

“As it stands, Liverpool want to support Arne Slot, they want to give him at least until the end of the season,” said one report bed.
“If they missed this in Champions League qualifying, it would only increase the pressure on Arne Slot even more.
“Unfortunately for Slot, he has the shadow of Xabi Alonso hanging over him.”
Xabi Alonso threatens Arne Slot
“A lot of fans also support Alonso, so if things don’t improve at Liverpool you will hear more and more about him taking over,” the report continues.
“So it’s a key period for Slot now, he really needs to create a bit of momentum to get results and like I said, the minimum, I think Liverpool would expect Champions League qualification next season.

Alonso has been unemployed since his dismissal by Real Madrid last month. The former midfielder had previously been considered for the Liverpool job – but at this stage he could not be convinced to leave Bayer Leverkusen.
He is, however, now available and appears willing to return to Merseyside if sporting director Richard Hughes chooses to make a change in the dugout.
Right now, the focus is on getting results for Arne Slot – who is under contract until 2027. After Man City this weekend, Liverpool’s Premier League fixture schedule eases somewhat – playing five teams currently in the bottom half of the table.
Hopefully this streak brings some stability to Slot and his men – otherwise we could see the title-winning coach leave a year ahead of schedule.
