Here’s all your latest Liverpool FC news. The Reds have seen a statement from the Premier League over a controversial VAR decision.
VAR Statement
A controversial moment in Liverpool’s victory at Crystal Palace came when Virgil van Dijk and the Marc Guehi, central defender linked to Liverpool found himself in a tangle, with Van Dijk appearing to grab Guehi’s arm and send him spinning to the ground as the ball entered the box.
No penalty was given at the time and VAR changed nothing – much to Guehi’s chagrin – and the Premier League has since issued a statement.
“The referee’s decision not to penalize Van Dijk’s challenge on Guehi is verified and confirmed by VAR – finding that the challenge did not stand and had no impact on the game.”
The statement is clear but confusing. “Durable detention” appears to be a subjective and poorly defined term. And while Guehi may not have touched the ball on this specific occasion, off-the-ball incidents are also fouls.

Quansah signs contract
Jarell Quansah
Liverpool have tied down young defender Jarell Quansah to a long-term contract. The Reds announced the deal Monday afternoon.
Quansah broke into the first-team setup last season, finishing first choice alongside Virgil van Dijk as Jurgen Klopp’s reign came to an end. He has been unable to fill a similar role this season under Arne Slot, but Liverpool have placed faith in the defender with a new deal.
Talks of a similar deal are in the air for Ibrahima Konaté, which could see the Reds lock down the future of their defense.
Liverpool named in lawsuit
A very interesting result of the Manchester City court decision made public is the list of witnesses from both parties. Man City actually had three other Premier League clubs testifying in their favor: Newcastle United, Chelsea and Everton. It’s of course no big surprise that they’re the trio.
Newcastle are in a very similar boat to City and if decisions go a certain way it opens the door for the Magpies to run wild financially. Chelsea also play high-risk gambling and would like to have as few restrictions as possible.
Everton is a notable one. They have had fun over the financial problems with the Premier League over the last 18 months, but certainly don’t have the financial muscle of the other three.
But Liverpool were also named here. They were one of several clubs to testify in favor of the Premier League. According to the telegraphBrighton, West Ham, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal joined them.

Liverpool’s hopes of beating Chelsea at Anfield were boosted significantly this weekend with two Blues stars collecting their FIFTH yellow card of the season, leading to them being ruled out of the match against Liverpool.
Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have been among Maresca’s most consistent players during this season, helping the Stamford Bridge side to a top-four finish after seven matches.
However, the defensive pair have been plagued with disciplinary issues this season, with Cucurella being booked in the second league game of the season against Wolves before earning cautions in each of his last four outings.
