In recent years, Real Madrid have been quite effective at finding and then acquiring South American talents who are dubbed the next big thing.
Thanks to Juni Calafat’s expertise, Real Madrid has been able to sign talents such as Vinicius Jr., Franco Mastantuono, Rodrygo and Endrick in recent years.

However, in what could prove to be a big miss, it appears Real Madrid have been beaten by Liverpool in the race to sign Gabriel Mec, with the young striker being branded the ‘new Vinicius’.
Liverpool beat Real Madrid in pursuit of Gabriel Duc
As reported by Brazilian journalist Fabio Vargas (h/t Central Defense), Liverpool are on the verge of sealing the services of Mec, for a fee of 15 million euros.
Currently plying his trade for Gremio, Mec is not a traditional winger like Vinicius. However, he is an explosive striker, capable of breaking the lines in the final third.
At just 17 years old, Dude has already shown immense potential and has been compared to stars like Vinicius, whose the future at the Santiago Bernabeu remains uncertain.
This is a big blow for Real Madrid, especially since the club has been monitoring Mec’s progress for several months.

Real Madrid missing Dude is not an isolated case. In recent years, the club has found it increasingly difficult to recruit Brazilian talent at a reasonable price.
In fact, Dude becomes the third great Brazilian talent that Real Madrid is missing, after Estevao and Vitor Reis.
As Premier League clubs get richer, clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are finding it increasingly difficult to sign unproven South American talent, who command high market valuations.
