A total of 19 LIV Golf players took part in the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews.

The R&A must have been nervous after several wayward players entered the fray at different points during this major tournament.

It’s fair to say that Rory McIlroy was the favorite. But even a crowd of more than 50,000 supporters couldn’t get the Northern Irishman across the finish line.

Earlier last week, R&A managing director Martin Slumbers described LIV Golf as “not credible”claiming the league was “not based on merit”.

The most prominent LIVGolf The player who played at the Old Course was Phil Mickelson. Lefty ended up missing the cut.

It was probably his last Open at St Andrews and his (perhaps) last walk to the 18th on the Swilcan Bridge. was very different from Tiger’s.

The 52-year-old didn’t stop as he crossed the iconic bridge and the stands were virtually empty, barely provoking a wave of applause.

Mickelson became frustrated with questions from LIV Golf last weekurging a journalist to “let it go” when asked why he didn’t attend the champions’ dinner.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Lefty said. Mickelson subsequently refused to give further media interviews.

Ian Poulter, too, was also frustrated by questions about being the target of boos. “I think I got a great reception,” he said.

Yet aside from a few stories, the topic of LIV Golf did not dominate discussions as we celebrated golf’s oldest major discipline.

Although he seems to be winning Cameron Smith could soon join the Saudi-backed series judging by this awkward exchange.
