Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Leon Balogun is a hot topic in Germany and abroad following his imperious performance against Eintracht Franfurt last weekend.
Against Eintracht Franfurt and champions Borussia Dortmund, Balogun was brought in to play at right-back, and he impressed with his strong tackling and ability to link midfield and attack. His favored position is central defense or man marker.
Interviewed by the German daily PictureBalogun, who his teammates call Barack Obama, is happy with his performances in the last two Bundesliga matches.
“It’s just great to be able to do something.” I did well in training and played three league matches. A very good feeling! “, Balogun told Bild.
Asked about the reason for Balogun’s absence in previous matches, Fortuna coach Norbert Meier defended his selection policy.
He told Bild: “Léon didn’t play well during the preparation, he knows that himself. But he worked hard and it paid off. With us, every player is needed, and it’s not just a saying to keep boys happy.”
Balogun, 24, is eligible to play for the Super Eagles but has not been contacted by the Nigerian FA.
