ASHBURN, Va. — Commanders rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes has had some tough times in his young NFL career. It was benched earlier this seasonand continue to fight.
Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green was in attendance at Sunday’s game. WUSA9 talked to him about Forbes and he said he’s been a topic of conversation.
“I’ve had conversations about him, not with him, but about him and watching him,” Green said. “Honestly, I could help him in 10 minutes.”
Green played 20 seasons in the NFL with the Washington Football franchise from 1982 to 2002. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion, four-time first-team All Pro and was invited to the Pro Bowl seven times during his tenure. career. He was also named NFL Man of the Year in 1996.
“I’m going to cross a line that I’m known for crossing. He’s not getting the help he should be getting,” Green said before Sunday’s game. “That’s all I’m going to say about that.”
Green said that despite Forbes’ struggles, he had been impressed by him.
“I don’t know him, but they say he’s such a smart kid,” he said. “He’s a little Southern peanut Darrell Green.”
Green was spotted speaking to Forbes on the sidelines of halftime on Sunday.
“He was just telling me to keep my head up, keep moving forward and get better every day,” Forbes said of their brief conversation.
Forbes said he was always willing to take advice.
“It will help my game and hopefully when I talk to him, when possible, he can give me some advice,” Forbes said.
Coming up, the Commanders and Patriots will meet for the first time since 2019, when New England hosts Washington. The Patriots have won the last four meetings. Washington’s most recent victory against New England dates back to 2003.
