Horestead, Florida-Kyle Larson shot and then won the Nascar Craftsman Truck series on Friday evening, starting a weekend, he hopes to end with that he will only become the second pilot to sweep three NASCAR races the same weekend on the same track.
The only driver to win the three races in the national series on the same track the same weekend was Kyle Busch in 2010 and ’17 in Bristol. This is the third time that Larson has executed the three races in Homestead.
“This is the main objective of this weekend was to win the three,” said Larson in response to a question from NBC Sports. “After the rotation, I said to myself:” Damn, it’s over now. “He was just able to make sure that some things get a victory.
“As you said, you can’t win the three of it without winning the first. I like my chances the rest of the weekend. I think that Austin Hill was really good here (winning the Xfinity race) last year, so it will be hard. … I know that my car will be good. I just kept it out of the wall as I did this evening.
“I know that my cutting car will be great. I (felt) that you were going to enter the weekend, I thought the truck would run the biggest stranger and perhaps the most difficult to win just because of my inexperience in the trucks, just the races being short, the assault of the drivers and all that. It is good to pass through it.”
Larson was running with Layne Riggs in the top five when he went on the track, contacted the Riggs truck and spun to bring out the last caution of the race at the 91 round of the 134 rpm event.
“I just judged the race I had badly,” said Larson.
He restarted 22nd with 40 laps to do. Larson made his way through the field and obtained help when Corey Heim, who led a 78 -round summit, had power cut over his truck.
“At the end of the day, we had a lot of the fastest tundra, the fastest truck on the market, I thought,” Heim said after finishing third. “I just managed the race and directed by a second or two at that time and I was trying to manage this gap.
“Once the problem occurred for the first time, I made it replay and I was able to pass these guys again. It was simply unreal.
Riggs finished second. Tyler Ankrum finished fourth. Daniel Hemric finished the first five. Ross Chastain ranked sixth.
