Jalen Brunson was unstoppable Thursday night.
The All-Star point guard finished with 39 points as the New York Knicks defeated the Boston Celtics by a final score of 118-109. Brunson recorded 39 points in the first three quarters.
He finished the night hitting 15 of his 23 attempts from the field, adding two rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes on the floor. Brunson did not play in the fourth, although he still managed to record his fifth straight game scoring at least 30 points.
The Knicks came out on top in the second quarter, closing the half on a 25-5 run to take a 69-48 halftime lead. NBA fans were amazed by Brunson’s efficient scoring throughout the evening.
The loss wasn’t too costly for the Celtics, as they entered the game with the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference already locked up. Still, it was surprising to see Boston’s dominant starting unit fall into a hole they couldn’t recover from.
Jayson Tatum scored 18 points and dished out seven assists in 32 minutes, although he shot just 5-13 from the floor, including a 1-7 mark from three.
The Knicks improved to 48-32 with the win, while the Celtics fell to 62-18.
