Oct. 15 — Former NASCAR champion Joey Logano will compete for another title following a disqualification after the Roval race at Charlotte.
Alex Bowman appeared to be part of the field of eight vying for the championship after last weekend’s race, but his car failed post-race inspection.
Bowman’s Chevrolet was found to be under the minimum weight and the disqualification eliminated him from title contention.
Hendrick Motorsports has decided not to appeal the disqualification.
His misfortune elevated Logano to the field of eight, joining Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick, William Bryon, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott.
Larson won at Charlotte last weekend and should be considered an early favorite to advance to the championship race at Phoenix.
The NASCAR schedule concludes with traditional tracks in Las Vegas, Homestead and Martinsville before the final race in Arizona.

Cole Butcher became the winner of one of the jewels of short track racing.
