LAURENT — Kansas Basketball Graduate guard Shakeel Moore suffered a foot injury, a KU official confirmed, that could sideline him six to eight weeks.
Moore transferred to Kansas after a stint at Mississippi State, but began his college career at North Carolina State. He was a four-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite coming out of high school, and 247Sports ranked him as a three-star talent in the transfer portal. The timeline for his return would have him back in time for the start of the regular season.
Kansas basketball coach Bill Self believes his team now has the starting depth he wanted
“Shakeel is a combo guard who can play on and off the ball,” KU head coach Bill Self said in a statement from the Jayhawks in June after Moore signed with the program. “He’s a tremendous athlete, and we think he’ll be a great addition to the existing staff. His experience and maturity should allow him to fit in well here.”
Moore is part of a group of transfers who joined Kansas this offseason. Senior guard Zeke Mayo (South Dakota State), junior guard AJ Storr (Wisconsin), junior guard Rylan Griffen (Alabama) and senior guard David Coit (Northern Illinois) are also newcomers. Moore, when healthy, is likely to play a backup role for the Jayhawks.
Kansas returns three of its regular starters from last season in senior forward KJ Adams Jr., graduated center Hunter Dickinson and graduated guard Dajuan Harris Jr. Harris and Adams were both part of the Jayhawks’ 2022 national championship team. This current iteration of KU’s roster has Self and company once again being considered national title contenders.
