Liverpool’s iconic defender Joel Matip left Merseyside when his contract expired this summer and the Cameroon The international has not yet found a new club.
Matip signed for Liverpool on a free transfer from Schalke 04 in 2016 and made over 200 appearances for the Reds before his contract ended in June.
While at the club, Matip won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, while also earning cult hero status at Anfield for his adventurous dribbling from the back line and his comical appearances in the club’s online promotional material.
Although there was a number of interested clubs By signing the 33-year-old centre-back on a free transfer, it appears the former Liverpool man could now be set for a return to the Premier League.

Matip’s return to the Premier League
According to Ruhr24, West Ham are now interested in bringing Matip to the London Stadium to strengthen their defence.

Al-Orobah FC and Thilo Kehrer, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbona has also left the club either permanently or on loan.
West Ham have signed Max Kilman for a price close to the club record and also brought in Jean-Clair Todibo on loan from Nice but further defensive reinforcements appear to be planned in East London.
Why hasn’t Matip found a club yet?
Although the defender was an icon at Anfield, his final season on Merseyside was blighted by a cruciate ligament tear he suffered in December which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Matip has not played a single minute of football since then and his current injury status is unknown. This could be a reason why, despite much interesthe has not yet signed for a new club.
The 27-cap Cameroonian has suffered a number of injuries in his final years at Liverpool and teams may be concerned about his availability.
Although Matip is without a club at the moment, he could soon return to the Premier League and could even make a return to Anfield when Liverpool take on West Ham in Carabao Cup third round on September 25d.
