Jonathan Marchessault joined The Cam and Strick Podcast and discussed everything that happened in the process that led to his leaving the Las Vegas Golden Knights and join the Nashville Predators.
The 33-year-old, who wasn’t exactly a fit with the team, leads the franchise in games played, goals, assists and points but failed to reach an agreement with the Golden Knights.
“In Vegas, I called the general manager (Kelly McCrimmon) on Friday, I called the president (George McPhee) on Saturday, and I said, ‘What’s going on, what do you want to do? I need to know are you really going to let me go?’ Then when Sunday came around, nothing was happening,” Marchessault said.
Marchessault also explained that he was looking for a four-year deal, but the Golden Knights were only willing to offer him a three-year deal. He then got more than he bargained for with the Predators, signing a five-year, $27.5 million contract on free agency day.

The 2023 Conn Smythe Award winner has now been added to the list of fan favorites who have been moved or let go by the Golden Knights. That list includes Marc-Andre Fleury, Nate Schmidt, Alex Tuch And Reilly Smith.
“There’s no loyalty, but at the same time, we’re here to win. Personally, I don’t mind,” Marchessault said. “Obviously, I’m disappointed to have left. I didn’t have any real things to consider and that’s what disappointed me. I thought I did enough good for them the last seven years to deserve what I deserved. I wasn’t asking for anything extravagant, I wasn’t trying to rob the bank or anything. But that’s life and you move on, and they’ll always have a very good team and only time will tell us if they were right or wrong.”
