Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Friday that he is “still processing” the abrupt firing and arrest of former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore. This astonishing development sent shock waves through the college football landscape.

“I’m still processing this like a lot of people, I’m sure,” Harbaugh said, adding that he learned of Moore’s firing from a member of the equipment staff after Thursday’s practice.
Michigan fired Moore for cause Wednesday following a university investigation that found “credible evidence” that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. The dismissal came amid rapidly developing legal problems.
Harbaugh has a history with Moore, hiring him as Michigan’s tight ends coach in 2018. He then took over as offensive coordinator and played a key role in the Wolverines’ 2023 national championship run.
After Harbaugh left for the NFL, Moore took over as Michigan’s head coach for the past two seasons. He was the hand-picked successor in Ann Arbor, which has now caused controversy due to the process.

With Moore gone, the abrupt end to his tenure will likely prompt more questions about the state of the program. Michigan just experienced one of the worst scandals in school history after stealing signs from its opponents.
For now, Michigan will have to find a new coach in one of the biggest coaching carousels. But this time, there is no room for error.
