This is Jelly Roll’s world and we all live in it!
2024 has been a milestone year for the “Need a Favor” singer. First of all, Jelly roll dominated the CMT Awards, taking home trophies for Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year. While he said in his acceptance speech that it was one of the best nights of his life, he now reflects on another lifelong dream coming true.
On August 8, Jelly Roll sat down with The Pat McAfee Show to discuss his song, “Get By,” being selected as the new College GameDay anthem for the 2024-25 season.
“I’ve always wanted to have a theme song, it’s huge,” Jelly Roll said during the interview. “I’m a huge football fan. I grew up in the South and I’m sure you know: it’s Jesus, football, Lynyrd Skynyrd, you know what I mean? In that order.”
As excited as Jelly Roll is, ESPN fans are divided on the news. “I love this!!! Lfg,” Michael Phelps exclaimed on Instagram. “I like Jelly Roll, but ‘we’re coming to your town’ just brings that college football vibe that we all love and appreciate! Someone open the windows and light the smoker,” another fan chimed in. “I don’t understand all the hate towards Jelly at all. One of the most humble human beings ever,” someone else remarked.
While not all fans are thrilled with the new development, ESPN Vice President of Marketing Curtis Friends explained why the Grammy-nominated artist was the perfect candidate for the honor. “There is a powerful connection between music and college football, and for more than a decade, ESPN’s College Football Anthem has been an integral part of promoting the sport as its release marks the unofficial start of the season,” he said in a statement. “Jelly Roll is a talented, award-winning artist whose music speaks to the passion of college football fans across the country, and we are thrilled that ‘Get By’ will be the soundtrack to the sport all season long.”
It’s a big year for college football theme songs and country music artists! The SEC Network has already announced Luc Combs as the singer of their anthem for 2024.
