Jeff Ulbrich continued in his role as the Jets’ defensive coordinator after becoming their interim head coach, and he said after Monday night’s loss to the Bills that the Jets’ defense needs to improve.
“From a defensive standpoint, it’s just not the start we’re used to with this defense,” Ulbrich said. “It wasn’t good enough to start with. We focused on stopping the run, knowing they would commit to it – that’s the Bills’ signature move this season – and we didn’t. not done: 150 yards, 4.7 one carry, four explosives, that’s not winning the football from a defensive standpoint And that’s on me, that’s on every player, that’s on us. It’s a collective matter.
Ulbrich said the run defense needs to improve quickly.
“It’s not good. It’s not the standard of this defense. No man out there would say that. We’re just not used to it. There’s been miscommunications, there’s “There were times when I could have made a better call, and there were some mission mistakes. It wasn’t the defense we’re used to, especially against the run,” Ulbrich said.
At 2-4, the Jets don’t have much margin for error if they want to be a playoff team. Ulbrich needs his defense to play better Sunday night in Pittsburgh.
