Penn State head coach James Franklin discusses how the offense has adapted to recent changes
State of Pennsylvania wide receiver Harrison “Trey” Wallace had a solid 2023 campaign. But the rest of this season could be in jeopardy following an injury he suffered against Indiana. When asked if Wallace would be willing to play in Penn State’s Week 12 game against Rutgers, head coach James Franklin couldn’t offer much on the situation, but confirmed his status as a second-year receiver for Saturday.
“Yes, we won’t see him this week. But I’m not sure after that. said Franklin.
Wallace had a quiet but solid year for Penn State in 2023. Among Nittany Lions receivers, he comes in third in all three major receiving statistical categories, just behind Dante Cephas And KeAndre Lambert-Smithwith 15 catches for 161 yards.
It’s been a quiet year for Penn State’s receivers in 2023. Still, the loss of Wallace’s services could be significant, as the Nittany Lions are currently in the midst of an offensive coordinator transition after letting Mike Yurich go. Penn State will be without Wallace’s services this Saturday, but the jury is still out on the final game of the season at Michigan State on Friday, November 24.
What’s changing for Penn State with new offensive coordinators
In a recent episode of Andy Staples Podcast on3the college football expert brought a State of Pennsylvania inside Blue White Illustrated man Sean Fitz. The two discussed several key storylines surrounding the program. But perhaps the most important subject is that of Fitz and Staples. Penn State’s recent move to offensive coordinator was discussed.
Franklin offensive coordinator fired Mike Yurich following another dreadful performance by the Nittany Lions against a top opponent. In his place, the running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider and tight ends coach Ty Screams will assume play-calling duties. But what exactly was Penn State’s motivation for making this decision with only two games left in the season? According to Fitz, a number of things were at stake when this decision was made.
“Rutgers has a good defense. I think the flip side of what we just saw with Michigan is I don’t know if Penn State is worried that Rutgers is going to score a ton of points,” Fitz said. “But you never know what can happen; It’s November in the Big Ten.
“It’s a situation where you’re not going to change the offense in two weeks or whatever they have. But I think you feel like they made that decision because you just have to get a good start on the next guy, but also because these next two defenses aren’t going to threaten you in the sense that Michigan and Ohio State will.
