THE New Jersey Devils held an optional morning practice at the Prudential Center Thursday evening before their game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Only seven players were on the ice for the Devils, including Kurtis MacDermid, Justin Dowling, Jesper Bratt, Timo Meier, Tomas Tatar, Paul Cotter and Jake Allen.
During his pre-game media availability, head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that Markstrom would get the start against the Canadiens, marking his 11th of the season.
The veteran goaltender has a career record of 8-8-3 in 19 games, a 2.17 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage against the Canadiens.
Montreal captain Nick Suzuki will be a player to watch tonight. He scored three goals against Markstrom in 16 games, the most of any Canadian.
The Devils goalkeeper has just lost 3-0 against his former club, Calgary Flames. He was working towards a shutout and didn’t give up his first goal until the final minutes of the third period.
