NEW YORK, New York — Prior to their practice at Madison Square Garden, the New York Islanders team announced that Mathew Barzal has been placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), while Adam Pelech has been placed on injured reserve ( IR).
Both players have a 4-6 week recovery time.
Here are the other announcements:

-Pelech IR, 4-6 week release (top)
-Reilly daily
-Romanov will not skate, day to day

Barzal suffered an upper-body injury Wednesday night in Columbus and left the road trip after the game.
Placing the star forward on LTIR (retro Oct. 30) gives the Islanders the flexibility to make a move, clearing $8.15 million.
Friday against Buffalo, Pelech was injured by a deflected point shot in the face in the second period and did not return to the game.
The injuries to Barzal and Pelech add to the growing list of missing players for the Islanders, who have already been dealing with the injury bug.
Also, on Friday, Mike Reilly fell backward to the ice after a hit by Buffalo’s Jordan Greenway – a frightening scene.

Fortunately, Reilly was able to get up and skate with the help of his teammates, although the defenseman’s recovery timetable is unknown.
To make matters worse, Alex Romanov appeared to aggravate an injury he suffered against the New Jersey Devils on October 25.
Romanov returned later in the game against Buffalo due to an shortage Islanders defensemen, but he didn’t practice Saturday and does it daily.
Anthony Duclair suffered a lower body injury earlier on October 19 and was placed on LTIR for 4-6 weeks.
Grant Hutton and Samuel Bolduc were called up from Bridgeport to fill the gaps on defense for the Islanders. Barzal’s absence appears to be filled internally by the NHL roster.
The Islanders play Sunday afternoon against the New York Rangers to 1 p.m. ET.
