Fred Vanvleet. Amen Thompson. Kevin Durant. Alperen Sengun.
Four of the first five for Houston’s Rockets are locked up, but coach Ime Udoka has a deep list and can go a lot of other directions with this fifth place – and it is something that he could change games depending on the game. Udoka said Ben Dubose of Rocketswire that he wanted it to be played in the training camp, then call his call (Tip Haops Rumors Hat).
“It is to be determined. I think Jabari (Smith Jr.) has shown enormous growth this offseason, and obviously, he started majority of his time here before the injury. But we are going to take a look at everything. We believe that we have an incredible depth this year and a lot of versatility in a training camp. ”.
Smith is the most logical person to be the fifth starter, giving the rockets both the size and the shooting. Smith collected an average of 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, pulling 34.6% beyond the arc, in 39 games as leaving last season. Then Smith broke his hand, Thompson was moved to the starting range to replace him, and when Smith was in good health, there was no way that Thompson came out of the starting formation. That said, Smith prospered in a bench role with an average of 13.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in less minutes.
If he wants to go with the waist, Udoka could start Steven Adams to the five next to Sengun, they played well last season. If Udoka wants a more traditional wing in this mixture, Dorian Finney-Smith is a solid two-way player, and there is Jeff Green on the list.
This is what the training camp is used for – no one goes with all the answers, the best teams are open to the possibilities. In the end, Smith probably gets the position, but there will be interesting things to look in the Rockets training camp beyond Kevin during.
