Talladega – When I was younger, my favorite film was Cars.
It continued as I get older, my favorite Disney driving is test track, and I still like movie cars but I grew up to love other films, especially Talladega Nights. So when Talladega superspeedway Media relations sent an email saying that local media members could roll around the track earlier this week, I felt like I was on the Talladega night scene when the crew chief asks the crew “Does anyone want to go fast?”
Like Ricky Bobby, my hand immediately was shown because I also wanted to go fast, sending an SMS to my boss to run the story by him. I understood correctly and I thought I was ready for the races, but I discovered later that I was not ready for the speed at which I would go on Wednesday.
It was not 200 MPH like the Cup Hits series going around Talladega Superspeedway but still 170 MPH, much faster than I never left. The experience is outside the Nascar race experience that Talladega welcomes throughout the year. It was all I was hoping for since this email.
I started by climbing through the car window, something I always wanted to do but I feared that my frame would allow it. The climb was an easy adjustment and once the crew made me complete, my driver Mark asked me if I was ready and we went into force to the first turn.
My first thought was “Oh my God, it’s incredible”, followed by how we are going to make this turn at this speed. Fortunately, the turns here are included of 33 degrees to allow speed.
The experience was only three laps around the historic track, but I acquired an appreciation for the track that I did not have before, and perhaps only one won when entering the giant corners to more than double the speed limit of the displayed highway.
Later, these thoughts circulated between the way I was happy not to have lunch before driving in roller coaster in my life in my life. Subsequently, I felt that I had accomplished what many dreams, quickly going around a Nascar track.
It was all you hoped for breed because Ridealong would be, especially for the youngest who thinks that I have the coolest work in the world covering the sports of Alabama.
His first and probably only thought at the beginning would have been to quote the emblematic conference of the pre-reference of Lightning McQueen: “Speed, I Am Speed.”
Wednesday, I was speed.
