How the Kings-Blazers game impacts NBA Cup elimination scenarios originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

It’s been a rough start to the NBA Cup for the Kings, who currently sit second to last in the Western Conference standings for the in-season league tournament.

After starting 0-2 in group play, Sacramento’s third group game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday at the Moda Center has huge implications for the Kings.

If Sacramento loses to Portland, the Kings will be eliminated from the NBA Cup.

However, Sacramento doesn’t control its own destiny, as Friday’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder also factors into the equation.

If the Kings win, but the Lakers also win against the Thunder, Sacramento will still be eliminated.

It’s been a rough start to the 2024-25 NBA season for the Kings, who currently sit in 11th place in the Western Conference playoff standings with a 9-10 record.

Sacramento will look to continue its momentum after the The Kings’ impressive 115-104 victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday at Target Center.
