How much does Victor Wembanyama weigh? Why the weight of NBA Draft prospects is a “sensitive subject”

You will notice that there are far more strengths than weaknesses in any Victor Wembanyama scouting report.

There is a good reason for this.

Wembanyama, the expected No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, might be the hottest prospect since LeBron James in 2003, which is saying something. It’s hard not to be drawn to the potential of a 7-footer with guard skills who has shown he can impact both ends of the court at a high level.

One of the few concerns scouts have about Wembanyama as he looks to make the jump to the NBA is his size. He has the size and length to succeed at the next level, but her light silhouette made people talk about her.

How much does Victor Wembanyama weigh?

According to ESPNadding weight is a “sensitive subject” for both Wembanyama and his advisors.

Wembanyama is officially listed at 7 feet 4 inches and 230 pounds. This height would have tied him with Boban Marjanovic for the tallest player in the NBA in the 2022-23 seasonbut he weighs 60 pounds less than the Serbian center.

Being as tall and thin as Wembanyama is not uncommon, however. Those dimensions give him a similar build to Wizards center Kristaps Porzingis (7 feet 3 inches, 240 pounds), magical attacker Bol Bol (7 feet 2 inches, 220 pounds) and Kings star Domantas Sabonis (7 feet 1 inch, 240 pounds).

While Wembanyama told ESPN that he does not see himself becoming “a really big guy”, he would have eaten five times a day for five years to “help his muscles keep pace with his bones”, which would have more to do with gaining strength rather than gaining weight.

“Weight will come with time, you know, but focusing on weight is a mistake.” Wembanyama’s agent, Bouna Ndiaye, said. “I’m 100 percent sure of that. If you put too much weight too quickly on Victor’s body, it won’t last. Of course. He’ll be prone to injury.”

Wembanyama’s slightness hasn’t stopped him from dominating the French Pro A league as a teenager this season. In 33 games with the Metropolitans 92, he averaged 21.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks while shooting 46.8 percent from the field.

His weight might attract a lot of attention, but Wembanyama has the size and skills to make an immediate impact in the NBA.
