The Mercury has revealed that time is running out on a £100,000 investment from Weston College to transform the courts before the funding deadline expires at the end of the year.

Ron W said: “I would love to see these done personally, what do you think?”

Bill G said: “They should remain tennis courts. There is a severe shortage of public courts in Weston.

But some people liked the idea of turning them into a multi-purpose play area (MUGA).

Sharon B said: “I think they would use multi-games more, I rarely see anyone playing tennis there. »

John CH agreed and said, “The college favors the flexibility of varied recreational use, which seems ideal for this downtown location. »

Jacqueline R said: “I think multi-sport use. Kids need a place to play any sport.

“Definitely not a parking lot.”

John CH stressed that North Somerset Council had to make a decision on whether to approve the plans.

He said: “Weston College has offered to pay for the work, although its potential funding cannot remain on the table for much longer.

“The ball is firmly in North Somerset Council’s court.”

But some question whether the area would be open to the public if the college completes the work.

Dave B said: “Would the college require exclusive use of the area for a portion of the time?”

But John CH said: “I’m sure there could be discussion about public use – evenings, weekends, holidays.”
