Shea Bridges announced Friday, July 19 that he will be stepping down as coach of the Hibriten women’s soccer team. Below is a letter from Bridges on his decision.
After 21 fantastic seasons as the Head Coach of the Hibriten Women’s Soccer Team, I have decided to step down. It is a bittersweet decision, but when my youngest child asked me the question, “When are you going to coach me?”, I knew what I had to do. I began this journey in 1999 as a volunteer coach for our men’s program. Coach John Howarth gave me an opportunity. To break into the coaching world at my alma mater. In 2003, Coach Dena Holman offered me a position as the Head Assistant Coach of the women’s team. We had a plethora of talent in the program, and I had the honor of coaching Hibriten’s first junior women’s team. At the end of the season, Dena decided to step down and I was fortunate enough to take over a very talented team.
I have coached many phenomenal athletes during my tenure and we have had a great deal of success! The Hibriten Women’s Soccer team will always hold a very special place in my heart and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity I have been given. While the wins and championships have been extremely rewarding, my greatest trophy is undoubtedly the relationships I have built over the last 20 years. I hope the impact I have had on the lives of many of my players will be just as rewarding to them as it has been to me.
Among the many thanks are God, my family (Shawna, Cameron, and Justin), assistant coaches (especially Scott Franquemont), and my Hibriten family for allowing me to put my heart and soul into the Hibriten women’s soccer program!
It is with great pleasure that I hand over the program to Coach Trevor Allen.
Black Attack! Shea“I am honored and excited to continue working with the Hibriten High School community as the head coach of the girls soccer team,” Allen said.
“I look forward to working with our talented athletes and helping them reach their full potential on and off the field. I want to thank Coach Shea Bridges for being my mentor and trusting me with the incredible program he has built for 21 years. I would also like to thank Coach Reeves and the entire Hibriten administrative staff for supporting me and women’s soccer at Hibriten.”
