Earlier today I shared the Washington Wizards figurine evenings for the 2023-24 NBA season. In this article, we will review the different themed games. Here they are, according to Wizards release yesterday:

  • Season of Giving (November 20)
  • Mental health awareness evening (January 8)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 15)
  • Basketball Day at the DMV (January 20)
  • Children’s Day (January 21)
  • Jewish Heritage Evening (January 31)
  • Heart health awareness evening (February 2)
  • HBCUs and Divine Nine Night (February 10)
  • Banneker STEM evening (February 25)
  • International Women’s Day (March 8)
  • 2K evening (March 17)
  • MS Awareness Evening (March 19)
  • Literacy evening (March 21)
  • Evening in shape (March 23)
  • Cherry blossom evening (March 27)
  • Pride Night (March 29)
  • Sneaker evening (April 5)
  • Fan Appreciation Night (April 12)

Like most previous seasons, the Wizards host parties for children, schools and various health awareness causes. What I found interesting is that the Wizards

There’s a major difference between this season’s Wizards themed parties and past parties. There is only one heritage night at the moment, which is Jewish Heritage Night on February 2. In previous seasons, the Wizards often held heritage nights for every player who was not American.

Do you remember Japanese Heritage Nights with Rui Hachimura or Polish Heritage Night with Marcin Gortat? Although Bilal Coulibaly, the Wizards’ first-round pick, is French, there is no French Heritage Night. No Italian Heritage Night for Danilo Gallinari. While the DMV is certainly a melting pot of melting pots, it seems like this year the marketing team is focusing more on DMV natives.

That’s not to say that most of these heritage nights are over. It’s just that they haven’t been highlighted yet.
