(Golf topic) McIlroy on ‘November Masters’: ‘I like slower greens’

(Golf topic) McIlroy on “November Masters”: "I like slower greens"
Number 1 Rory McIlroy hosted the Masters which will be held in November this year.

(Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae) ○…World number one Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) expressed great confidence in the “November Masters”.

On the 13th (Korean time), during a live event sponsored by Nike Golf on Instagram, he said, “I look forward to the Masters every year,” and added, “This time, I think there will be a chance.” Winning the Masters is above all the last piece of the puzzle towards the “Career Grand Slam”. Traditionally held in the second week of April each year, it was postponed this year due to the spread of COVID-19 and will take place over four days starting November 12 at Augusta National in Georgia, United States.

McIlroy is particularly known as a “fall man”, having won 9 of his 18 PGA Tour victories after August. He explained, “The fall Masters is exactly what I wanted,” adding, “The weather will be cooler then and the green speed at Augusta National won’t be as fast as in April.” McIlroy turned professional in 2007 and has since achieved 4 major victories, 3 World Golf Championships (WGC) series victories and 5 FedEx Cup (PO) playoff victories, making him the “number 1”.

Among the four major tournaments, he has already won the US Open, The Open and the PGA Championship, but has not yet collected the Masters trophy. If he wears the green jacket, he will win the “Career Grand Slam” at age 31. At the 2011 Masters, McIlroy led until the third round but collapsed with an 80 on the final day. Since then, he has fought for the title several times but has tasted defeat each time. This year, due to the schedule change caused by COVID-19, he has a golden opportunity.
