(Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, golf journalist) ○… “Asian Swing Canceled.”
The United States Women’s Professional Golf Tour (LPGA) announced on the 14th (Korean time) that “this year’s Taiwan Swinging Skirts LPGA (total prize money of $2.2 million) will not be held.” It was originally scheduled to open on October 29 at Miramar Golf Course in New Taipei City, Taiwan (par 72, 6,437 yards). The explanation was that “due to difficult COVID-19 prevention measures and travel restrictions between countries, it is impossible to organize the tournament.”
After the cancellation of the Buick LPGA Shanghai in China the day before, this is already the second event out of four held in the Asian region to be canceled. The events in Korea (BMW Ladies on October 22) and Japan (Toto Japan Classic on November 6) also risk being postponed until next year. Korea and Japan are postponing their national tours one after the other due to COVID-19. The LPGA Tour was paused after the Australian Women’s Open in February and resumed after about five months with the Drive On Championship on the 31st of last month.
