The PGA Tour announced on the 25th (Korean time) that “DeChambeau tested positive in his last COVID-19 test before leaving for Japan” and that “Patrick Reed will take his place.” DeChambeau said, “I’m upset that I won’t be able to represent the United States in the Olympics,” adding, “Representing my country is very meaningful and I was honored to be named to the team.” He also said: “I wish the American team good luck in Tokyo.”
He continued, “From now on, I will focus on recovery,” and added, “After overcoming COVID-19, I will show a good performance in the tournament.” Reed shared his thoughts, saying, “I am very excited to compete in Tokyo representing the United States.” The American team will include Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele and Reed.
