We’re nearing the end of the calendar year and that means that soon serious PGA Tour golf will be back in our lives (we have to wait a bit until January, but you get the point).
Fortunately, golf is in such a state these days that we are constantly treated to many alternative style events. Black Friday brought a revitalized version of The skin game where Keegan Bradley emerged victorious and next week brings the Optum Golf Channel Games.

The games in question will be broadcast on Golf Channel and USA Network on Wednesday, December 17 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET. Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are the two team captains. Both of this year’s Ryder Cup captains, Luke Donald (the back-to-back Ryder Cup winning captain, by the way) and Keegan Bradley will be part of the mix. This is going to be a lot of fun.
Obviously, a lot of eyes will be on McIlroy and Scheffler as they have won three major championships of the year between them. Rory completed the career Grand Slam by winning the Masters, but Scottie is now one major away after victories at the PGA Championship and Open Championship.
Scheffler’s longtime fitness trainer, Dr. Troy Van Biezen, helped Scottie on his path to greatness and offers a training program in GolfForever that helps players optimize their strength, flexibility, mobility and balance. You can make your own assessment for your own needs here.
All of these Scottie skills will be on display next week at the games. Rory will surely want to end the year with another win and one against him will set the stage for a fun 2026 between the two.
