Russell Wilson and Sean Payton’s marriage with the Denver Broncos ended in disaster this season. After much anticipation about what the two Super Bowl-winning veterans could do together, it’s now one of the worst and most toxic situations in the league. Payton effectively cast Wilson aside at the end of the season, benching him after starting the first 15 games.
In addition to his benching, Wilson has sparked controversy over his contract. Wilson has said the team tried to get him to modify his massive contract to avoid an injury guarantee. But the fact remains that Wilson had a career-low passing yards and ranked 21st QBR in the entire NFL. He has a salary cap hit of over $35 million, which could rise to $85 million if the Broncos cut him.
Speaking about the situation on Get up On Friday morning, as ESPN was set to discuss an NFL-related topic with the season just ending, the cast analyzed the rather bleak situation Wilson and the Broncos were facing. In fact, ESPN reporter Dan Graziano went so far as to joke that next season, Wilson had a good chance of being on the set of Get Up with them instead of finding a spot in the NFL.

Graziano isn’t alone in saying that longtime NFL analyst Tim Hasselbeck also believes Wilson might not be able to land a spot with the Broncos, or any other team in the league.

If Wilson does indeed decide to hang it up, ESPN would probably love to have him on the air, whether on Get Up or elsewhere.
