HOOVER, Ala. — Sophomore Morgan Smith shot a 1-under-par 71 in the first round of the UAB Hoover Invitational to lead the Georgia women’s golf team into a tie for fifth on the first day of the tournament.
Highlights
* The Bulldogs opened the day with an 11-over-par 299 in the first round to tie for fifth after the first 18 holes. Georgia then continued into the second round, which was suspended due to darkness, leaving incomplete results. The 18-hole second round will be completed at 8:30 a.m. EDT Tuesday.
* Smith shot a 71 to finish her first 18 holes in a tie for fourth. The Westford, Mass., native had three birdies, including two on the front nine, to post her lowest 18-hole score of the young season, 1-under par.
* Sophomore Emma Falcher finished the first round tied for 13th, shooting a 1-over-par 73 over the first 18 holes while making three birdies.
* Celine Brovold Sanne shot a 4-over-par 76 to finish the first round in 31st place. Like Smith and Falcher, the sophomore also had three birdies, bringing her total to 12, which puts her in first place on her team.
* Senior Kate Song opened her 2024-25 season with a 79 to share 58th place.
* Graduate and transfer Chantal El Chaib shot a 2-under-par 70 with four birdies to sit fourth after the first round as an individual. The round marked her 18th best score of the season, while tying the lowest round for par by a Bulldog in 2024-25.
* Georgia entered the second round 15 shots behind the lead, but just four shots out of a tie for second. Louisiana Monroe led with a team score of four under par after the first round, with Stetson (+7) and Alabama (+8) rounding out the top three.
